Esoteric Ebb

Developed by Swedish developer Christoffer Bodegård, Esoteric Ebb was a Disco-like fantasy CRPG heavily influenced by tabletop RPG’s featuring deep and branching dialogues with a staggering amount of choice set in an Arcanepunk-fantasy setting. Spending time with Christoffer and the game, it quickly became apparent the sheer depth of the game, exemplified by the unprecedented amount of dialogue and text that he had written single-handedly for the game over a number of years. In theory, having a 12 month PR campaign would allow us to implement and execute a wide variety of activities. The reality, however, was that due to Christoffer being a one-man development team, the time we had with him and the game was limited. So, we had to make each beat count.

From the game’s announcement in February 2025, followed by the first gameplay reveal in June, we focused on targeted hands-on previews with key select media over a three month period, maximising the limited amount of time we had with both the game and Christoffer. Nevertheless, we secured glowing previews with The Guardian and Gamespew among others. Post Gamescom 2025, the campaign was forced to go quiet for six months to allow Christoffer to focus 100% of his efforts on finishing the game. But the groundwork in the campaign had been laid, and public expectations for the release were high.

With the release date of March 2026 announced the previous month, we set to work on the review campaign for what was, by this point, one of the most eagerly anticipated RPG’s in recent memory. Reviews were secured with key gaming media including PC Gamer (90%), Game Reactor (9/10), and Wargamer (unscored). As of July 2026, Esoteric Ebb sits on a Metacritic rating of 85, and has been hailed as the best Disco-like since Disco Elysium.
